Diversity Management

The history of Diversity Management is very much linked to civil rights movements in the USA decades ago. It is now more or less established within successful US-American, British, and Scandinavian companies. Its starting point and message is that diversity at work (e.g. age, gender, ethnicity, religion) is not necessarily a problem but a possible ressource.

Various research studies show the positive impact of managing diversity on employee satisfaction, productivity, creativity, customer relations, work climate, and the company‘s image. No matter if enterprises choose Diversity Management due to ethical or economic reasons, managing diversity will be of greater importance in future because of demographic changes taking place.

Interreligious Management

Research project "Interreligious Management" in cooperation with RfP Europe.

Interreligious Management is probably one of the most neglected fields within Diversity Management.

The UN-organisation Religions for Peace (RfP) aims to promote the interreligious dialogue worldwide. For pictures of the conference "Shared Values for a Changing Europe" in Rovereto, Italy, please click below.

Intercultural Communication

Intercultural Communication is an interdisciplinary field combining a great many different approaches from e.g.  psychology, translation studies, cultural anthropology, business studies, sociology, and philosophy. It is also a field that – due to globalisation and migration developments – became more important in the last years.

The acquisition of the so-called "intercultural competence" is a rather complex issue despite the many popular formula sold to managers before they start business negotiations abroad. These "bicultural" trainings provide important information but if exaggerated run the risk of creating stereotypes which are of little help in communication.

Art & Management

The combination of arts and creativity with management seems to be a paradox on both sides. To what extent creativity can be managed is a rather controversial question. Several case studies show the negative effects of unsuitable management styles leading to the loss of creative employees. There are, however, also case studies that show the positive impact of specific managerial styles on creatives.
