Diversity Management

The history of Diversity Management is very much linked to civil rights movements in the USA decades ago. It is now more or less established within successful US-American, British, and Scandinavian companies. Its starting point and message is that diversity at work (e.g. age, gender, ethnicity, religion) is not necessarily a problem but a possible ressource.

Various research studies show the positive impact of managing diversity on employee satisfaction, productivity, creativity, customer relations, work climate, and the company‘s image. No matter if enterprises choose Diversity Management due to ethical or economic reasons, managing diversity will be of greater importance in future because of demographic changes taking place.

Interreligious Management

Interreligious Management is probably one of the most neglected fields within Diversity Management, particularly outside the USA or the UK. Religion and spirituality don’t necessarily have to inspire every person but can be sources of motivation at the workplace. Ford Motor Company and Texas Instruments, both regularly on the list of the „100 Best Companies To Work For“ include this very aspect of their employees in their human resources management.

The UN-organisation Religions for Peace (RfP) aims to promote the interreligious dialogue worldwide. For pictures of the conference "Shared Values for a Changing Europe" in Rovereto, Italy, please click below.

Disability Management

The question whether the inclusion of people with special needs is seen as a kind of Disability Management or Ability Management depends on the approach one chooses. The Danish company Specialisterne, for instance, focuses on each individual’s abilities, potential and skills.

By considering these points, Specialisterne provides jobs to people on the Autism Spectrum who are seen as specialist people offering most valuable contributions to the job market and society. Apart from that, the people affected are a „major minority“ with estimations of between 1% and 10% of the world population being on the spectrum.

Art & Management

The combination of arts and creativity with management seems to be a paradox on both sides. To what extent creativity can be managed is a rather controversial question. Several case studies show the negative effects of unsuitable management styles leading to the loss of creative employees. There are, however, also case studies that show the positive impact of specific managerial styles on creatives.
